About Canada's growth in the post-war years, John Rapley says it was almost effortless. My grandfather worked almost until the end of his life as an electrician and repairing engines. It was hard work. His hands were calloused and his health suffered from the hard work. He put in a lot of effort. Canada's growth post-war was based on the effort of Canadian workers. Our country had a large postwar advantage, as it had not been ravaged by bombs, and had built up industry to supply war materiel. There was (and is) the advantage that the wealthy accrue greater wealth through unequal exchange and through exploitation of the workers in Canada. But the growth of Canada was not almost effortless. Thanks are due to the efforts of Canadian workers.
